Global Warming and the Individual - Pay it Forward

December 2nd, 2007 by jane

pay it forwardThe movie classic ‘Pay it forward’ is about a 12-year-old boy who is determined to change the world for the better. To put it simply ‘Paying it forward’ is about passing on world changing ideas. In this film, the little boy thinks of an idea and describes it to his mother and teacher in the following way-

“You see, I do something real good for three people. And then when they ask how they can pay it back, I say they have to Pay It Forward. To three more people. Each. So nine people get helped. Then those people have to do twenty-seven. Then it sort of spreads out, see. To eighty-one. Then two hundred forty-three. Then seven hundred twenty-nine. Then two thousand, one hundred eighty-seven. See how big it gets?”

One man who is making a huge difference and encouraging others to ‘pay it forward’ is an American science teacher and father of two young girls who has made a series of short videos on global warming. He is encouraging all of us to inform ourselves on global warming and then speak up about it in our lives.

Watching all of his videos will take you a couple of hours, but it’s probably one of the best investment you will ever make. He presents his ideas in an entertaining, thought provoking way and then asks us to ‘pay it forward’.
