Here is a quick way to live greener and cleaner

greenpower1.jpgOne of the easiest and most helpful things you can do for global warming is to pick up the phone and switch to ‘green power’.

Most of us rely on getting our energy from dirty coal fired power stations, which release millions of tonnes of greenhouse gases into the fragile atmosphere every year. We think we don’t have a choice where we get our power from, but we do.

A phone call is really all it takes to switch to some form of ‘green power’. These are schemes set up by electricity suppliers whereby they guarantee that the energy you use will be sourced from a renewable energy generator which is less polluting. If 100% of electricity users choose green power, then the supplier must source 100% of its electricity from renewable energy generators.

For a typical Australian house using about 6,700 Kilowatt-hours per year, the extra cost of green power is no more than about AUD$5.50 per week. A muffin and a cup of coffee!

You can easily find utilities offering green power in each state (GreenPower in Australia and The Green Power Network in the U.S.).
